    TC: Nova Crafting Stress-Test

    February 11th, 2012
    The SWGEmu Development Division

    TC: Nova Crafting Stress-Test - 02/11/2012

OK this time we get down to business,

We will start off at 3PM EST with a QA meeting in the IRC #openqa channel (one hour before the crafting stress-test) meeting will be open to public.

After the meeting, starting at 4 PM EST (check your local time here) on Saturday (February 11th), the developers and QA are looking to perform a massive crafting stress-test on TC: Nova that will last roughly 3 hours. We need as many people as possible to log in, so please join us and Nova's rapid progression by contributing to our latest crafting stress-test!

PLEASE NOTE: TC: NOVA is not going to be wiped, we strongly suggest you log on to you characters a few hours before the QA meeting and crafting test and start producing necessary components.

WHAT EXACTLY DO WE NEED TO TEST?

We would like to test crafting, all areas. We want to know about issues with schematis, about broken schematics, components not working/affecting schematics, not producing the correct item, experimentation not working. Every single thing needs to be tested and retested. Any and all bugs need to be reported on Mantis (Bug Tracker).

    WILL WE NEED FACTORIES?

Yes, factories will be necessary for crafting required identical components. All other structure deeds except factory deeds will be removed from Blue Frogs. World spawns (lairs) around major cities will also be disabled, that should keep the landscape clean and safe for factory placement.

    ARE FACTORIES STILL SLOW?

Factories have been edited to produce 1 item per second.

    WHERE?
    Nova Test Center (TC: Nova)

    WHEN?
    4:00 PM - 7 PM EST (GMT-5)

    HOW?
Make a character on TC: Nova, use Character Builder Terminals (Blue Frogs) that can be found in front of every star port, to learn one of the crafting professions, or to obtain tools and resources deeds

IS QUALITY OF WHAT WE CRAFT IMPORTANT?
No, the most important thing is to see if the crafting process works properly, and to find out if and what parts of crafting process are buggy, broken or missing.

    WILL NOVA BE WIPED AGAIN?
No, TC: Nova will not be wiped before we begin this crafting stress-test.

    WHAT ABOUT LIBERATOR?
For the duration for this stress-test Liberator will be OFFLINE.

Once again log in as many characters as your computer can handle. Remember this is not just stress test, there are specific tasks we need to complete. Those who never submitted a bug report should check this guide first: How to report bugs on Bug Tracker (Mantis). A well written bug report will make QA's job much easier. Remember to keep up-to-date on our testing information, and check as often as you can End of Liberator Milestone.

Saturday Stress Test - Round Two

    January 28th, 2012
    The SWGEmu Development Division

    Greetings testers and community members,

Starting at 4 PM EST (check your local time here) on Saturday (January 28), the developers and QA are looking to perform another stress-test on Nova Test Center that will last roughly 3 hours (thus concluding at ~7 PM EST if results are sufficient). We need as many people as possible to log in, so please join us and Nova's rapid progression by contributing to our latest stress-test!

In addition to general stress testing, aka logging as many instances as your computer can handle, developers would like us to test some specific things:

    1. Since TC: Nova will be wiped before the test, everyone will be required to create a new character and complete the tutorial.
    2. Test MOB and NPC spawns and Loot in DWB on Endor and Geonosian Lab on Yavin IV

PLEASE NOTE: Teleports for the stress test areas are at Coronet Starport

    WHERE?
    Nova Test Center (TC: Nova)

    WHEN?
    4:00 PM - 7 PM EST (GMT-5)

    HOW?
Make a character on TC: Nova, complete the Tutorial, go to DWB and Geo Lab and kill & loot everything.

    WHAT ABOUT LIBERATOR?
For the duration for this stress-test Liberator will be OFFLINE.

Once again and log in as many characters as your computer can handle. Remember this is not just stress test, there are specific tasks we need to complete. Those who never submitted a bug report should check this guide first: How to report bugs on Bug Tracker (Mantis). A well written bug report will make QA's job much easier.

And please remember to keep up-to-date on our testing information, the latest of which is detailed in our latest announcement and in End of Liberator Milestone.

We need your help on TC: Nova

    January, 2012
    The SWGEmu Development Division

We need your help on TC: Nova

    Hello everyone,

Many of you have probably noticed that developers are writing code like crazy and are putting in tons of stuff on TC: Nova to be tested. Which means QA and CTT has lots to do in a short time frame. Unfortunately there is too much code to be tested and they are seriously understaffed. Which means they cant keep up with the developers. This is where you come in...

Once again we need our community to help us test all the new stuff developers have been adding over the last few weeks. We know some of the key features a still missing, and frequent wipes don't help the experience one bit, but that is all part of the development process and something we will have to learn to live with until EoL Milestone is reached.

Please log on TC: Nova as often as you can, use Blue Frogs (they can be found in front of Star Ports in every major city) they will help you build your characters more quickly.

    Currentlymain focus is on:
    • PVP combat
    • PvE combat
    • MOB and NPC armor and skill level
    • Vendors
    • Scout
    • All missions (except faction destroy missions)
    • Loot (Fort Tusken on Tatooine, Geonosian Bio-Lab on Yavin IV, Nightsister Stronghold on Dathomir and DWB on Endor)

    PLEASE NOTE:
Detailed list of everything that needs testing can be found here.

If these things are not in your area of expertise or you just want to check out all the new stuff that was added feel free to do so. Test anything and everything. Those who never submitted a bug report should check this guide first: How to report bugs on Bug Tracker (Mantis). A well written bug report will make QA's job much easier.

Just a reminder folks, both Dev and QA/CTT teams are currently recruiting, so if you have some free time and the necessary know-how please check these threads and send your applications:

If you have any questions, you need to know in what particular area QA needs help the most, etc please send a tell to Wuzze in game.

Dev's are doing their part and writing the code, its time for us to do our part.

    Website and Database Move

    January 7th, 2012
    The SWGEmu Community Division

    Hello everyone,

Continuing our changes to increase and improve Core3/Engine3 development, it was deemed necessary to lighten the developer's administrative workload on the servers. The SWGEmu website and database, which are currently on the Chicago box, will be transferred to our new box, which we call the Community Box. The old Denver box will continue to run Liberator unchanged. The Community Division department, Site Services, will operate this server and it will host:
    • The SWGEmu Homepage - www.swgemu.com
    • The SWGEmu Community Forums - plus one archive version
    • The SWGEmu Community Wiki
    • Mantis Nova Bugtracker - plus two archive versions
    • JIRA/Fisheye
    • MySQL Database
    • Global Registration
    • Biophilia's SWG PreCU Scrapbook v5.1

    What will happen:
    1. Core3/Engine3 developers will get the server in Chicago to be dedicated to TC: Nova and TC: STM
    2. All items listed above will be moved as-is to the new Community Box
    3. Liberator on the Denver server will remain unchanged

    What does all that mean:
    • Liberator and TC: Nova will be on separate hardware boxes, hardware failure of one box won't affect both servers.
    • Developers will be able to manage the Chicago box as they need to best benefit development, without spending time on community stuff.

How long will Website and Database be offline?

    • We expect downtime to be less than 24 hours for all things on the website.

PLEASE NOTE: Test Center, Liberator/Nova/STM, IRC will NOT be affected during the downtime but a new person will not be able to register to play on TC. The Nova/STM move will happen at a later date.

Liberator Cloud mini test (round two)

    December 10, 2011
    The SWGEmu Team

Liberator Cloud mini test (round two) - 12/10/2011

OK folks its time for another mini test. Oru has tweaked the tool that is supposed to detect memory leaks, LordKator fixed the issue we had with the Cloud and we are ready for round two. Hopefully, this time, tool will do its job and detect those pesky memory leaks. Once those those leaks are detected they can be fixed to a degree, which means that devs can maybe add some of the things to the Liberator code that community suggested.

ATM memory leaks are the biggest obstacle that prevents us from moving Liberator to the Cloud permanently.

Once again, please log on to your LiberatorTest characters, run multiple instances, make new characters. Lets put that tweaked tool to good use and help developers fix those memory leaks.

PLEASE NOTE: LiberatorTest is already up and running,
has been all day. If necessary Regular Liberator will be taken offline tomorrow and it will stay offline until developers get the data they need.

Thank you for your understanding and support.
